Il borgo di Manarola

The seaside village of Riomaggiore arose between the thirteenth and fourteenth century when the inhabitants of the settlements upstream decided to go down to the sea, controlled by the Genoese, which flourished thanks to trade along the coast. We suggest to visit the church of St. John the Baptist and the Castle overlooking the village.

Riomaggiore is included in the tourist area of 5 Terre, known worldwide for its beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages. In 1997 they were recognized UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the following two years were established Marine Protected Area and the National Park of 5 Terre.

Today, tourists come from all over the world to discover this paradise overlooking the sea. Here you can walk the many trails, taste local products or simply swim in a fantastic water.

Near Cinque Terre

5 Terre are just a few miles from the Gulf of Poets, including in the province of La Spezia. We suggest to visit the fishing villages of Portovenere, can take a nice hike directly from Riomaggiore, and Lerici.

In La Spezia we recommend to visit Naval Museum, CAMEC,  Museum "A. Lia" or the parish church of Marinasco which offers a wonderful view of the city.

In less than an hour we can reach Lunigiana, the Apuan Alps with the marble quarries of Carrara, Versilia and the cities of Tuscany.
